My G/F's favorites are at/from Popcap Games (www.popcap.com), she was a big Tetris fan....
It's fun making objects in-game and there are many "mini-games" like Zingo and a few casual multiplayer games.

No matter what your route though, the best resource online for building games is at gamedev.net ....
The most want to look into learning C++ or C# .
If you want to make it online in a browser you should use Flash, Silverlight, or Java.
