Hi, since I updated ruby using Mac Ports (on Leopard) I have got several problems and I also had to reinstall gems. Now when I run Mongrel I keep getting the error "Missing these required gems" followed by the list of gems that I required in environment...

Are you sure the gem command is actually the one installed by MacPorts and not the included default from OSX?

In this question , I mentioned my assumption that rubyforge gems are more official, authoritative, and stable than github forks. One of the people replying to my question said that my assumption might not be accurate.

What I noticed ....
It really depends on the gem project quicker, but I don't know.
Some are rock solid, others are pre-alpha quality.
There is a huge range in quality/stability of gems from both sources.
No difference as far as I can tell.

Is it possible to search for all gems that rely on a certain rubygem?
For example, I'd like to ask for all gems in gemcutter that rely on the test-unit gem.
Background : I'm looking to see how other gems handle the issue mentioned here .

Use Google + Gemcutter....
Use gem fetch and then gem unpack to just d/l and extract them want.
Dependencies:
gem search test-unit-
Also, you can search your local gems dependencies with my gemBite the bullet, do it the BFI way.

There is no such thing as "best" gems.
You canRuby gems is a package manager for ruby projects.
For a list of all the gems on rubygems.org, try gem list --remote .
Most used, but not "best".

When you freeze a gem it copies it in to the /vendor directory in your application and the application will load it before it loads a version of the gem installed in the normal rubygems path the gem already available to the application....

For all other gems you can use the vendor/gems directory deployable without depending on system installed gems and secondly it freezes a specific version of a gem to your application....
The binary gems are the real problem.

I'm trying to set a gem repository on one of our local servers. Here are the steps I'm running, that I've followed from several guides.
1) I create the BASEDIR folder /var/www/html/gems

require 'rubygems' require 'rubygems/indexer' i=Gem::Indexer.new generate_index -d /var/www/html....
But on the basedir one.
You should generate the index not on the gems subdirectory.

You have to run this inside your app root-enterprise-X.X.X/bin/gem....
Rake gems:install is to install gems for your app.
Ok I've looked in the docs
$ /opt/ruby.
To install gems on your machine use gem install .
