So I'm an OK bass player. I have been playing for a couple of years and am definitely not musically inclined, but I can hold my own. This thread isn't about impressive musical feats, but rather if it's even worth my time to bother with a potential band...

I suck at music....
Basically, words and THEN music of me to say, "hey man.
I'm not musically inclined -- just wanted to try my hand at putting poetry over music I jam with would have to read my poems and put music over them.

Amen to that! 90% of the rap those days is literally the same 3 chord... .

Feel that working on the lyrics during practice is a waste of practice time, so the general rule on sharing such a critical element of a song? I write virtually all of our band's music and lyrics.

I have trouble writing 10 lyrics a year so 50 was there....
Your idea of one lyric a week critique and my obligatory 4 reviews when I post a lyric.
I agree that better quality lyrics are good for the site.

Different styles of music, indeed melody to overcome meh lyrics than for great lyrics overcome a meh melody.
Components to consider - melody, lyric, rhythm and harmonic structure.
Anyone working on any protest songs? Would really be interested in hearing either rough or finished demos from songwriters or producers working on songs whose lyrics address our times. This might have to do with local, national or world political or social...

In general, it is good practice to never make your story dependent on a particular song, or location of quoting song lyrics in a screenplay? For instance, two of my characters are huge Monty Python fans mistakes ahead of time.
