You have to look at the structure of the XML more closely and access the nodes in the appropriate way base on their hierarchy .

You mean epoch time? You can use
long epoch = (System.currentTimeMillis()/1000L);
that will get the number of seconds since January 1st 1970 UTC time .

I think by SDK you mean the system version...so check UIDevice systemVersion Check out the UIDevice class - that's pretty much all you're going to get from the SDK .

Why not using libxml instead? What are your reasons for using an even-based parser like expat, rather than a tree-based... .
Expat is better when you are only interested with the structure, not the content of the elements .
It is quite difficult with expat.

A solution, on the PHP side, might be to use strpos and substr , to :
find the position of the character and extract what comes before/after .

Yes I would suggest the scroll viewer is messing you up, you could bind the Grid's width to the parent objects actual width, so there is a defined size in which the * has to actually fill .
