Keep us posted on how well they do.
That does seem like a very good deal.

Hi, I'm looking to backup my photos and have a short stack of 400GB drives sitting on my desk. I want to take two of them and put them in a mirrored backup system (RAID 1). I am running Mac OS 10.6.
I have heard much praise of the Drobos, but the smallest...

Some external enclosures will only function in an enclosure-provided RAID mode; an enclosure listing JBOD is to either get a firewire JBOD box....
If you just want the drives to show up individually, then JBOD is exactly what you want.

Bonjour,

I read the paper you wrote and I have some (probably naive) questions:
The section #6 labeled "core improvements" seems to suggest that the
fileserver is basically using the CPU/fileserver hybrid kernel (both
major changes are quoted as coming from ...

I also run the same fileserver at home.
It is a one-off thing.
So there are shared
bits, but not many.
Of course
the same c library and whatnot are used.
It is just a file server kernel.
It's not a hybrid kernel.

So, the answer should probably be presented in tiers for the size of the application, but I'm wondering about people's experience with choosing where the disk drives used by the database should reside.
Here are some of the options:
JBOD - (just a bunch...

Hey.
I am assembling file server for home use. I wonder if it is possible to use multiple disks in a way that they will be visible in network as one continuous space? More less like JBOD. I am using SATA disks, NTFS formatted. Can I achieve this by symbolic...

What are the two USB3.0 ports usable for?
Can I plug in an external USB3.0 harddisk, and then share this volume like it was an internal disk of the NAS?
If not, why not? Of course, it couldn't be a member of a RAID configuration, but I plan to use JBOD...
