I'm curious, though - are there any reasons NOT to use it (and just use plain old JavaScript instead)? If there aren't any reasons, should it not be integrated fully...

Lots of bad reasons.
If you do use any of the features, there's probably not a good reason to roll.

I still fondly remember getting my first computer a C-64 when I was about 5, and of course I'm sure many of you have similar memories. But the catch was the C-64 was a single piece of hardware that even if dropped or kicked wouldn't break, the keyboard...

There isn't really a good, rugged laptop that can take a kicking unless laptop and carries this around ....
I would definitely recommend this for a five-year-old the XO, also known as OLPC.
A little bit of a beating from your typical child .

My old PC notebook is taking its final breathes and I'm considering getting a new laptop.
I was checking some prices and currently a 15" Windows notebook with a 400+ GB hard disk, and 4GB of RAM will cost me around the same as a 13" Macbook Pro.

After I've upgraded to Snow Leopard and Xcode 3.2, everything was screwed up. It took a while for me to figure out the whole evil was that my old Xcode installation was not really "updated", but replaced. So just everything was gone. All SDKs, Settings...

My mother is in her 70s and has started to go deaf, so my sisters and I can't really call her on the phone any more.
She has never had a computer, and when I got her to try out playing with my iMac she hunt-and-pecked for keys and struggled with the mouse...
