Did you apply through the Monetize tab of Google Sites in the process when blogger/knol....
You won't get a verification email until Google thinks you have submitted a completed application.
I can't sign in.
But that tells me to sign in.

Google did recently launch a beta version of Knol, but there seems to still to develop and how Google adapts to its users needs.
