My son has a 02 24v that has about 400k on it one day going up a hill he nailed it and started a knocking sound . stopped and add some oil (less than a gal.) and the knock was still there he continued on for around 75 miles the noise never got worse. ...

You can usually hear exhaust leaks especially when you first start though, just in case.
