I've heard that you can buy worktops that have a veneered solid surface - granite, quartz or composite on MDF or whatever. The veneer is sufficient to allow sinks...

There are lots of different makes doing composite worktops on chipboard or MDF.
Of them you have to buy a special length of worktop with the groves and undermount sink already cut into them like Maia.

You can sometimes pick up scratched/damaged worktops in Ikea for a reduced price This for a garage worktop? No - just....
But they charge the going rate ie whatever the worktop is new £pm, then the same rate is applied to the offcut.
