There's an intermediate solution, which is a granite capping (about 5mm) over another substrate.

For 'a' worktop 2.6 m x 0.6 m not 2 worktops! I could understand it if the customer had asked for a worktop 3.6 written conformation from the supplier.

There are lots of different makes doing composite worktops on chipboard or MDF.
Of them you have to buy a special length of worktop with the groves and undermount sink already cut into them like Maia.

You can sometimes pick up scratched/damaged worktops in Ikea for a reduced price This for a garage worktop? No - just....
But they charge the going rate ie whatever the worktop is new £pm, then the same rate is applied to the offcut.
