I'm trying to figure out how I could write an autocompletion algorithm for Lua, but since as with many scripting languages it lacks a static type system I think I need background compilation, but during background compilation it's easy to hit the halting...

To do so, you can parse the document looking for ... .
Most text editors that provide autocomplete use this method, although it isn't as accurate .
Autocompletion based on static text analysis sounds more reasonable than trying to compile in the background .
When have you ever personally come upon the halting problem in the field? This can be when a co-worker / boss suggested a solution which would violate the fundamental limits of computation, or when you realized yourself that a problem you were trying ...

For example, if a Java virtual machine can prove that a piece of code this is possible; as it gets more complex... .
I literally got assigned the halting problem, as in "write a monitor plugin to determine whether run into the halting problem.
The halting problem cannot be solved for turing complete languages and it can be solved trivially for some non TC languages like regexes where it always halts. I was wondering if there are any languages where it has both the ability to halt and not halt...

Usually, ....
Halting can, in general, be detected in models with finite resources (like regular if the machine does not halt.
Rather, it acts on machines (i.e., programs-down automata ).
The halting problem does not act on languages.

Although the general case is undecidable, many people still do solve problems that are equivilent well enough for day to day use. In cohen's phd thesis on computer viruses, he showed how virus scanning is equivilent to the halting problem, yet we have...

The Halting Problem is really only interesting if you look at it in the general case, since if the Halting problem were decidable, all other undecidable problems would also be decidable via reduction, in the real world, it may not be such....
Whenever people ask about the halting problem as it pertains to programming, people respond with "If you just add one loop, you've got the halting program and therefore you can't automate task " Makes sense. If your program has an infinite loop, then ...

Feed the halting-program-checker ITSELFTo solve the halting problem, you'd have to develop an algorithm that could determine whether any into the halting-program-checker....
Another one and determine whether or not it will halt.
My Goal I would like to have a main processing thread (non GUI), and be able to spin off GUIs in their own background threads as needed, and having my main non GUI thread keep working. Put another way, I want my main non GUI-thread to be the owner of ...

You cannot force a return from that method except by closing all your forms or forcing an application shutdown .
Application.Run method displays one (or more) forms and initiates the standard message loop which runs until all the forms are closed .

This is one of the tasks of my assignment. I have a Turing machine simulation which can simulate a busy beaver function . I have done some research about proving this problem, but still don't get it so I guess maybe you can help me here. A good source...

Assuming you have a Turing machine of complexity x, then you could determine whether... .
(Another way of putting it is that all Turing machines of size x will either halt in less than BB(x) steps, or run forever).
Can carry out and still halt.
MSNBC reporting Politics is once again helping poor women to NOT receive medical exams. Unbelievable.

Watch the first few minutes of his intro. I have never seen this happen to him before. Felt bad for him as it was a little shocking, unexpected and awkward. He was fine later on. [The other guy is the Indian actor Ally Khan who was in Don 2 and has also...
