Hi Guys and Gals
Last week, Douglas and I discussed the merits of the 70s plastic handle Marples and Stanley chisels.
I don't know about you but I think that the day they started putting plastic on any tools was the day that the slippery downward slope...

This is the reason that I modified my Jap dovetail chisels:
...lop off the hoop comfortable for hand use only...no....
And whilst the steel is pretty good (dating from the 70's) the tool sits in my house toolbox as I use, hand paring.

I've been using Stanley hand tools for ages but over the last few years the quality seems to have fallen off a cliff.
I always used Rabone folding rules but the numbers scrubbed off the back of the last one in a few months, I later found out that Stanley...

I often read here where people better quality than ....
A lot of the wisdom I have come across on this forum says that the standard for Stanley products has been on the decline since the 60's.
Of Stanley tools, but now its all crap.

For Bailey planes were based on the #4, plus Stanley were horribly unhelpful and simply didn't build to date an old Stanley, I did find one site that may be helpful...

Thought this may be of some interest - it's a fine object indeed. Jim found one a while ago but it was missing some of the tools, then this one turned up complete. Makers were Joshua Britton & Son, Stoughton, Mass., and this is the Horace E Britton version...

The Stanley #3 is SOLD, the Stanley #7 is now 70$ plus shipping.
An update on both stanley planes, I believe they are both Type 11 planes.

I think, with respect to hand tool usage, that some people just "get" the feeling up for a course in making a tool chest with hand tools with a guy named Chris Gochnour.
The cheaper course.
