Seems like Apple and Google (via Android) are doing fine. So what happened to Windows? Or will we be seeing them soon?

One of the promises of Windows 8 is that it will run on ARM hardware as well as Intel.

I am starting this thread to get some interesting feedback from people on Microsoft's attempt, or success, at getting hardware vendors to force boot locking and making it hard to take a once windows pc and run linux. I, for one, dont know much on this...

In the Windows family (possibly because there's not a lot of active competition selling to the hardwareI worked for several years at a company that provided both CE and Linux for all of their hardware, so I'm fairly familiar with both sides....
