Hi, I have 2 small pups (under 3 lbs each). Is it ok to give them 1/2 heartworm meds each since the weight states for dogs 2-10 lbs. This would be for interceptor. Their full weight is expected to be < 6 lbs. thanks

The actual medication is not distributed evenly.
Heartworm preventative is not made to be split.

My 10yr old lab came up with a 'light positive' for heartworms this morning after her checkup. She is a very loving dog and has been a member of our 'family' since she was a pup. Other than the recent heartworm discovery she seems to be healthy (a little...

We determine how to treat based never missed a monthly treatment on any of my dogs, and now this makes two that the meds have failed on.
Or putting the dog on heartworm prevention for 6 months and then retesting.

Interceptor ingredient in general wormers - ivermec - is used in low doses in heartworm medicine.
Multi and Revolution are heartworm preventatives, but they also kill fleas.
