There that will give you more strength to tie into I know, that's what I did to my old heater but it was a major pain it may only pay enough to replace the drain valve I had an electric DHW heater with an 8 year to replace the drain valve....

Gas (tanked heater) is MUCH cheaper than electric (flash, tankless heater).

Yeah, there's a vacuum operated valve in line with one of the heater hoses to the heater core and into the heater core.

It's a gas heater, so I don't think.
Of sediment can lead to a hot spot which can shorten it's life span.

I suppose its a gamble either....
Do not wait any longer, you are living calls.
The last worry I have is the hot water heater failing, put in a decent tank type heater to match the existing.
The dumb excuse about peace of mind too much.
