Sometimes my servers will show a high load average in the "top" program (e.g. load is ~10 on a 4-core machine), but the actual CPU usage isn't particularly high.
I assume the issue is that there are many I/O-intensive jobs running. Is there any easy way...

Now, in the second case you.
That in certain contexts high load doesn't really mean the system is trashed.

Suppose you are designing a PC game that keeps track of high scores. In addition to keeping local scores, a global high score server is set up that is accessed by the game over the internet. Players should be able to submit their high scores to the global...

My high D(2) doesn't sound high at all (compared to high C(2)) Hey, kinda new to this saxophone playing (although I've played the piano for 10 years now) so the basics of music theory is not a problem. However, I've been trying for some time now to figure...

I have a mysql database running on solaris, from mpstat, I could see a thread has very high ithr and high sys cpu. How can I find where the ithr comes from and why the sys cpu is relatively high?

Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at stackoverflow):
If you have.
Mpstat will show high values in ithr for the CPU's handling any NICs or HBAs, and a correspondingly high sys time.
Downloads/express/index.jsp
That's probably a NIC's interrupt overhead.

I have a RAID 1 setup averaging 40 - 60 I/Os per disk and 0.5 average disk queue length. According to BOL example below, this is not a bottleneck.
Disk Reads/sec 80
Disk Writes/sec 70
Avg. Disk Queue Length 5
In that case, you are encountering (80 + (...

The Disk Reads/Writes data in itself wouldn't (to me) make sense to have a specific high I/O-discussed.aspx
As I read your question, you want to know how many IOPS (IO's per second) is high.

I have a high end Mac pro, but one thing in is that I'm unhappy with is a DVD drive. It's a Hitachi GH41N. Apple calls it a "superdrive", but it's anything but. The damn thing makes an amazing amount of noise, and isn't too fast either.
What I want is...

What I want is a state of the art, fast, quiet DVD reader
I'm using a Plextor... .
They are also built with Apple/Mac in mind.
My recommendation would be an external DVD drive by LaCie I have this drive and it is the most reliable/quiet drive I have ever owned .

If you were planning on building a high-traffic, very secure site what language would you use?
For example, if you were planning on say building an authorize.net-scale site, that had to handle tons of credit card transactions via an API, what would you...
Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at stackoverflow):
Consider.
Building high-traffic sites is more about design and architecture than the language.

It's also fairly high cost though, as you're using.
Amazon EC 2 is definitely high bandwidth and high performance and has supported Windows Server (2003, there is an AMI (the install file used for each OS) for that .
