Questions about hiking the Grand Canyon -specifically the North Kaibab Trail. Can we hike the 14 miles up in one day?
My bride-to-be and I are going on trip to the American Southwest including three days and two nights at the Grand Canyon (North Rim)....

Rangers said many people start the hike out at 2am in the summer.
This was in early July.
I did the down-up hike from the South Rim (South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch for the night minutes at most.

I would definitely stick with a boot made for hiking....
They have become much more of a fashion statement than a true hiking boot.
You can get sweet deals.

Same here unless hunting or shooting, I hike with a handgun.

I'm in the market for a new pack for backcountry hunts and have been doing a lot of looking around on various sites. What do I gain by getting a pack built for hunting vs a pack built for hiking/backpacking? There are a bunch of nice looking hiking packs...

I'd say the biggest difference between a hiking pack.
My current climbing pack is a McHale.

Riding/hiking alone What are your thoughts on riding and hiking the trails alone? I'm talking primarily Shutes, Jones Mill, and Lock 4. I know there are safety considerations, like wrecks, mechanicals, etc, but probably more leery of the two-legged risks...
