I currently am running Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) 2 and want to make the jump to Windows 7. I was looking at the Windows 7 Home Premium Family pack and from what I understand it is identical to the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD, just with three licenses...

That should include the RC (there was no RC2) of Windows 7 .
But Vista and Windows 7 must have the upgrade started from within a working version of Windows .
XP asked for the previous version CD (and so did many earlier versions of Windows) .

Last year I bought a laptop that included Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM version. As I bought it for my linux work and am not fond of Vista, I would like to replace it by Windows XP or make a Virtual machine that runs XP.
Is it possible to legally downgrade...

First an answer I don't believe it's possible for consumers to downgrade a license from Vista Home/download/5/f/4/5f4c83d3-833e-4f11-8cbd-699b0c164182/royaltyoemreferencesheet.pdf

Before I crack the seal on this copy does anyone have any pointers about installing and dual booting Vista Home premium OEM version. I was thinking of running it in a VM to confirm that I want to make the switch or setting...

The Best way to dual boot vista and XP is to create atleast 2 partitions for ( 1 for each OS unless more are preferred )
create 1st partition using XP CD and install XP on the C Partition leaving the 2nd Partition UNFORMATTED... .
