I'm a retiree with no mortgages so my 15% of gross income is of course low.

This does include....
About 80% is spent on all bills (and we don't even have a car, only bicycles.) this does include everything even shopping money (food shopping) .
I calculated the other day what we are supposed to be left with at the end of the month .

Also, if you end up paying any UK tax during 2012, you can also carry back any excess you for the link-- yes, it definitely seems as though the income is not subject to tax.
