With the new Xeon CPUs supporting Hyper-threading, what is the current wisdom with regard to using it (or not) on a Hyper-V host machine?
I was originally under the impression that turning it on in a virtual host environment could be detrimental...

Is anyone using the Hyper-V Server 8 (standalone) beta? I don't have much experience with Hyper-V and I'm wondering if VMs created in Hyper-V Server 8 are backwards compatible with Hyper-V 2008 R2.

Now that Win2k8 with SP2 ISO's are available for download, I'm installing a new Win2k8 Std SP2 VM on my Win2k8 RTM Hyper-V host machine.
If I "Insert Integration Services Disk" on the new SP2 VM from my non-SP2 host machine, would I be introducing old...

I don't believe IS is going to be installed on your 2008 guest at all, prior to hyper V recognizing.

Do you mean 'does Windows Server 2008 (with Hyper-V) R2 have a VPN client?' or do you mean 'does are talking about the standalone Hyper-v server 2008 product, that just does hyper-v then this is just providing the Hyper-v service....

There is no way to upgrade to a version with hyper-v- a reinstall must be performed ( Why is there a 32-bit Windows Server 2008 option “without Hyper-V”?.
You need to get the edition WITH hyper-v or that Role is unavailable.

(Indeed, they only "support" running Exchange 2003 under Virtual to run it under Hyper-V, but I suspect it will run fine.

Off the top of my head, Hyper-V Server does not allow for high availability (so if you want to do quick migration or support more than 4 processors and 32 GB of RAM.
