My friend is on L1 b visa dn her petition is approved till sep 2012. However when she came to US, she got her I94 till Oct 2014.
The immigration department of her office says that she can legally stay in US till I94 expiry without filing for extension...

You can keep filing extension until you reach the 6 year limit. .
Only the time spend in U.S in H1B + L1 status combined will be counted towards the 6 year period .
