There are many articles on how to detect if a microphone is connected to an iPod touch G2 via AudioSessionGetProperty / kAudioSessionProperty_AudioInputAvailable , but I have not seen any articles related to detection of headphones connected to an iPod...

The 2nd gen and iphone and above all will support another route... .
The kAudioSessionProperty_AudioRoute will always return headphones in the 1st gen since there are no other routes.
Playback when headphones are removed, this may help you.

The headphones supplied with the iPod are very cheap and nasty

Go back to Walmart and maybe tell them the problem and you can get new headphones..
Make sure you are pushing the headphones in so it makes a sort of "click" sound.

Ipod touch 4th Generation - Headphones wont work.? Music plays on my ipod but does not play through the headphones. When headphones are plugged in it still plays on the ipod( its like i havnt plugged them in at all) Any quick fixes.
