Why wont itunes extras work? I had an older version of itunes. And i just downloaded the film Life As We Know It. and it said on the itunes extras that it will only work if you have itunes 9 or later. so i updated my itunes to the version 10.6.1. yet ...

Files and replace with older versions , in ~/Music/iTunes:
• iTunes Library
• iTunes Library Extras of the application".

I don't have a huge library of music (~1,000 songs) and have signed up for iTunes Match and now iTunes Match hangs indefinitely on the "Gathering information"...

Try doing that and restart iTunes....
You can hit Stop and it'll pick up from where you left off next time you start iTunes Match.
In some sort of a loop constantly trying to access the Genius and iTunes Library extras journal.

ITunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don't already have.
With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums...
