Whenever I run iTunes after a boot, it opens fine. After it's been shut down, it won't re-open, and I can't shut it down via Task Manager. Only after I reboot can I run iTunes again. Any ideas?

May not help in your specific situation, but a warning in general:
The weak point... .
Reflash it with more suitable fan speeds...
So if it's not spinning up then the flashed BIOS has it's fan speed settings wrong .
The SMC does NOT control the GPU fan speed.
