Since the infected pc's virus scanner might be compromised, it's probably safer to scan, it is unable to remove....
At avoiding scanners, it is possible that once you are infected, it can install rootkits or similar a full scan.

I have a computer which had AVG Free installed from day one. After several months of operation, it starts detecting viruses and trojans all the time.
Besides running a full scan, what should I do to clean the computer? Should I install another anti-virus...

I am infected. I have run the Malware removal MANY times (in Safe Mode) I keep showing new files infected.

They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause.
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix.

Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer".
Tea-Timer:

Once to Start > Control Panel....
Once that's done, boot back to normal Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
remove Spyware Doctor to avoid conflict and other future problems.
