Although I truly believe that inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces, and all that jazz do have there place in many places and hopefully make the overall code simpler and not more complex, I agree that alot of devs LOVE to over engineer .

I live in the Chicagoland area.
For example, for me to "live", I need something like $1800 a month just to pay my mortgage .
At least, this is what I always equated it too .

If I were you, I'd start by reverse-engineering... .
Compression algorithms obviously feature heavily, as do short mechanisms for indexing large amounts of data and a deep knowledge of the available libraries on the target system .
