I am looking for opinions from experts that have written software consumed internationally. I would like to understand the best practices people have employeed at each logical softare layer (Data (rdbms), Business (middleware), User Interface).

For localisation, do not hardcode UI strings....
Right-to-left.
Be prepared to allow text and controls to go "the wrong way", i.e .
Don't store labels in the database.
Unicode (or wchar, or whatever its equivalent in <language of choice> is) everywhere .

This is been making my programming really frustrating lately.
I´m in Argentina right now connecting to a U.S. server via SSH. Understandably, the pings are a bit higher here (around 200ms on average) so when I SSH into the server there is a slightly noticeable...

Try sshing....
Tell us what you see.
To start with - open another terminal window, ping your server and watch the connection .
It is slow but I rarely had any problems.
I'm used to ssh over high latency links - 600ms .
Try adjusting your TCP window size.

From the windows command line, I need to echo out either the local or utc date and time of the system, but with the parts of the datetime in the order I want, regardless of the current internationalization setting of the pc.

If I locate a web site in TX and access it mostly in London, what is the lag time? What about other way around. How about between 2 very well fiber connected places like London and NYC?

If it is just web pages, most people wouldn't notice a huge difference if they are fairly small .
It depends on what you are serving up though.

I was looking at the Fender Bassman 100t, it's perfect for me, not too heavy, not too powerful, and plenty of tone.
Thing is nobody in Israel has it, and if they'll sell it over here, it'll be for about 3000$.

Full disclosure : I am both a PMUA flyer and a PMCO flyer, though I swiched business to CO when UA abandoned its NYC operation.
This would work on UA but not on CO.
That said, one feature I hope would work is check in Internationally. Does this work for...
