We have a wireless network that's using PEAP and MSCHAPv2 for authentication.
Linux connects fine, but on a Nokia n810 Internet Tablet I get this error:
No CA certificates available to validate server certificate
I've set the "use manual user name" field...

You may certificates in your tablet, you can extract the common ones from almost any linux web-server.
As I understand it, PEAP normally uses certificates.
I have no experience with the tablet.

I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects....

You can't connect to the internet on both devices at the same time.
See, it really hard drives.
If you have a wifi only iPad etc then you can take it .
Or iPad , or other phone or tablet.

Any recommendations? (smartphones and netbooks don't qualify) Browsing experience is the most important bit here. I don't care about apps, media capabilities, cameras, storage, battery life, 3G connectivity, etc. Destined purely for -sofa- internet browsing...

internet engine problem....
If nothing works, try updating tablet software.
Check all possible minor thing around.
Look for setting first, password for router / internet connection, restart tablet, check if tablet wifi is on.
