If it's the second points, get the iPod Touch.

If it's the first points you want, get the iPod Classic.
If you are not rapidly expanding your media library, the iPod Touch is the way to go.

I don't use my iPod often, so that's why iPod touch.
It's up to you but it can have a severe use of your device for showing off to friends, I say yes .

Sync your old iPods music to iTunes, then sync that music from iTunes to your iPod Touch
Or you can keep the old iPod for music Just sync your old iPod to your computer, and all your songs will be transferred to it.

So in iOS5, you delete a song from your ipod and it never syncs back ipod and it never syncs back, unless....
And, yes, iOS is way better than Android.
Doesn't have to be jailbroken.
Delete songs off any iPod, running iOS 5 or later.
