I want to pick out a new router with gigabit ethernet and 802.11n. Trouble is, unlike PC hardware, I'm not really sure what's good.

You are conceding some latency with wireless, however.
It's an expensive home router, but it's nice having more robust good for most things .
That my Linksys WRT300N cannot.
