I've heard horror and wonder why the reviews....
Jamaica already has too many rooms for rent, imo ;) Whatcha looking is that in Jamaica, a resort opening can be a seriously painful thing to put yourself into..
I hope not...

We want to go to the Caribbean in April. We have been to Barbados and loved it as you can get out of your hotel and walk around. We don't want to be stuck in the hotel as we want to see the country. We are looking for some luxury as it is a big birthday...

You can see a fair bit from wherever you make home base not sure why people just assume that Jamaica is dangerous? But it seems to be a popular conception assume that Jamaica is dangerous....
Of Jamaica can not be seen in a day or two..

On the south coast of jamaica, approx 2 - 21/2 hours from montego bay i have travelled there many times for accomadations in Jamaica.

Looking to do more excursions, then Ocho Rios , want to be close to the airport... .
What location is best for you depends on what you want from your trip .
Ocho Rios is the best for first timers !!! I think you can find affordable resorts in all locations .

Last year while in Jamaica I could not call a Jamaican number from my phone. I have international turned on - I was trying to let my driver know I was in the airport but my luggage was on the next flight. I will be going back to Jamaica in a few weeks...

Yams, plantain, rice menyioned is NEVER a problem in Jamaica (but may be a problem in an AI resort)...this is a typical Jamaican.
Currently in Jamaica and generally gluten free eating hasn't been a problem.
