I tried " The Journal " by DavidRM, and it is a great software.
Unfortunately, it is not free.
What are some close opensource or free alternatives, for Linux/Windows ?

Certain journaled file-systems do suffer from performance penalties for hosting the journal on the same drive as the filesystem itself. Using an external journal can improve write speeds. With the advent of SSD's, it strikes me as entirely possible that...

The possible speed improvement is very much offset by the added complexity and problems... .
Given that the amount of data written to the journal is usually very compact and most server Cache, the penalty of using a journal is mostly a non-issue.

Is it possible to disable hfsplus journaling for hfsplus partitions in systems other than using OSX's diskutil ?
My goal is to mount that partition writeable under ubuntu..

It seems the only 100% reliable way is to disable journalling....
Looks like it's read only.
And here's an HFS+ driver you could try.
Have you tried:
mount -t hfsplus <device path here>
Ripped off from: LQ.org <- Thread might help you a bit more .
