I've been thinking about installing a large Home backup Generators one of these years. Probably 20 KW or larger. Anyone have one or have installed one. Like to get myself educated on the pros and cons, also open to suggestions if there might be a better...

I had a 17KW propane fueled backup generator panel and the generator.
Most don't come with enough circuits to do everything that you are mentioning .
The purpose of a backup generator is to run the most essential items.

2012 nomination for generator pest of the year goes to wideboat "Gonzo" at Cowley lock, who consideratly runs a 6-8 kw air cooled Diesel under his back deck 9 pm to 5 am !

I am looking to buy a generator what does everyone recommend. It must be 120/240 single phase in the 15 to 20 kw range. I would perfer an 1800 rpm auto start and transfer unit fuel could be propane, diesel,gasoline but not natural gas.

Really sure you need a 15-20 KW generator, this is a little larger than most people need for backup or used, plan to do your own maintenance, etc then we can help.

Steve was the gentleman that really.
Those people were great.
It took two hours to take it off the replacement brushes for the generator .
That excites the generator was rusted in the closed position.

For temp use, there are generator cords that can use a 20 amp 220 or 30 amp 120 plg and split it to 3-4 a generator.
Run, what's the issue? Just use some extension cords, the generator has breakers and outlets built.
