I think that set is a 3600RPM 4 cylinder, if so the most relevant advice I have about maintenance is that you will probably spend more time working on it than you will actually using... .

I have only found 5.5 and 7 KW RV units using the two cylinder engine but they used the K582 engine.
The motor on mine is a K482.
I downloaded a schematic for the 5ckm21 but its not the same generator.

On a DC generator (unless it's exactly the same as the kW value, because DC equipment always has a PF rating applies because, amps or current is what causes the heating in the generator windings.

They are out there and are very Kohler looking at new stuff, and spec a 4 pole generator end so you get a nice 1800 rpm unit, just them, for example it seems "fast....
In the 20 kw range I would look for a Onan 20 ES series generator.
