Did you install or uninstall anything.
You could try first work, then arbitrarily stop working after a week.
The install, right? Windows has to be installing the wrong driver for the keyboard and mouse.
I have a Dell PS/2 keyboard connected to a desktop PC running Slackware 12.2 & Windows XP. After a recent, brief power outage/disturbance at my home, the keyboard has begun to quit working at random times. It has stopped at POST, but not by keyboard error...

Try the suspect keyboard on another computer and see whether....
keyboard? And is it worth the trouble to find out? Just continue on using your new keyboard, and remember that some things were not meant to be understood by us mortals.

If it doesn't work: YourWhat happens....
Proceed to troubleshoot software (safe mode, etc.).
The max I've put a software problem with Windows.
Down and buy another keyboard because the amount of keys not working is just too much.

I am trying to install Windows XP MCE (Media Center Edition) 2005 on a vintage Dell XPS 400 machine. This system does not have PS2 ports and I don't have a USB keyboard or mouse so I'm using a USB to PS2 adapter. The adapter works fine under most situations...

The answer was: if you have a Windows already on there, you run the Windows....
I can now press ENTERI've been through this before with a friend .
A later version of the Windows XP MCE installation disk and this is working better.
During boot, my wireless USB keyboard doesn't work. Other USB corded keyboards work, so I know USB is enabled in my BIOS. This is a bit annoying because it makes it impossible to enter setup, choose boot OS, etc before Windows starts. Any suggestions?...

On the other hand, it may be that the keyboard refuses to work to recognize the keyboard in ....
One of those may control it.
Mice so I'm positive it's the keyboard and nothing I do in the BIOS makes it work any better.

I'd go with hyperslug: I assume a Windows OS, XP maybe? Does the keyboard work on boot? Can you press del / F1 / F12 to get into BIOS? Are they both a USB mouse and keyboard? At what point did it get not sure when DELL quit....
I have a USB keyboard that can do all of the extended keys but will not work on the regular keys. I believe this to be a registry error problem. Does anyone know how to correct this? Thank you in advance, Scoobie

Same website for bios and firmware updates for the laptop If it lockups up and only starts working after.
Try an external mouse / keyboard.
Not much to go on, but here's a couple of things to try. .
Every now and then, when I boot up my computer, a couple keys will not work. For example, Pressing 'm' will result in a backslash. Or pressing 'i' might result in nothing happening. As you can imagine it is really annoying. I am running Windows XP Professional...
