Here's the setup... Your system is receiving a stream of data that contains discrete messages (usually between 32-128 bytes per message). As part of your processing pipeline, each message passes through two physically separate applications which exchange...

The two aren't related:
Latency it.
See Wiki: Comparison of latency and throughput disks via courier), while their latency is of hours or even days.

In low latency trading applications we are very conscious of latency issues. There is some concern that our application may experience increased latency if the server on which it is running changes PowerNow state.
Any kernel developers familiar with calling...

I don't know, increasing latency across the board..
PowerNow just lowers core frequency and core voltage.
I doubt it has any latency.

I need to simulate a low bandwidth, high latency connection to a server in order to emulate the conditions of a VPN at a remote site. The bandwidth and latency should be tweakable so I can discover the best combination in order to run our software package...

EDIT: There is also the MasterShaper....
It is highly configurable -- allowing the introduction of delays (the first example is for a WAN), packet loss, corruption, etc .
In the past, I have used a bridge using the Linux Netem (Network Emulation) functionality .

For keeping a website with significant traffic, how good is the latency on Amazon EC2?
I have heard that it is slow for websites and web apps. Is this true?

I run VoIP apps on EC2 and the latency.
If by latency you mean delays in processing browser requests it's likely that the instance the web server is running on is under powered.
In quick succession.

So, it depends on....
However, low latency would be important if you are making lots of small updates.
Unless the latency is really high I don't bandwidth would be important.
Then I would opt for higher bandwidth to keep up with the changes .

So far we have got latency down to around half streams for audio and video improve the latency and prevent buffering.
Similar and are using Unreal Media streaming software.
