Another option if you want to learn programming fundamentals is to read Knuth's The Art two answers who recommend the famous "K&R" guide.

Would it be better to learn C before learning any type of WEB and desktop programming?
I don't know how to program, I want to learn Javascript and my friends suggested to me that I should learn C first.

I'd say no, you don't need to learn C#, coming from java the language will be the easiest part, you'll learn the nuances as you go along.
It's the classes and what's in the framework that's difference .

AJAX == Asynchronous....
Learn javascript, but in my opinion it is best to use json learn one of the javascript libraries (jQuery, dojo, Prototype etc) that will simplify a lot of things in doing AJAX.
Hampered if you don't understand them.
