When does using if-let rather than let make code look better and does it have any performance impact?

Instead of
(let [result :foo] (if result (do-something-with result) (do-something-else)))
you write:
(if-let [result :foo] (do-something-with result) (do-something-else))
which that the macro expansion doesn't add much....

I understand the difference between LET and LET* (parallel versus sequential binding), and as a theoretical matter it makes perfect sense. But is there any case where you've ever actually needed LET? In all of my Lisp code that I've looked at recently...

Presumably by using let the compiler has more flexibility to reorder the code the intention that the....
If you have initializations with LET , they can be executed in parallel, while LET* initializations have may well in the future.
