I have a old desktop computer that I want to make a home server for file sharing purposes. It has 512 MB RAM and few GB of hard drive. Which operating system should be reasonable for this kind of slow system.

This is what Minix was designed....
An OS such as Minix would fit, but it's not clear if you can do any more than learn about OS internals .
Only a few Gigs?
A linux distro would work I guess but adding even a 40 gig in there would greatly expand your options .

Due to a special customer requirements situation, I'm in a position where I will have to run two old (rather, one old and one ancient) FileMaker Server instances -- 5.5 and 9.
If at all possible, I'd like to run both of those on one(!) Windows XP Pro ...

From what I'm seeing, a listening TCP port 5003 is used by both version of FileMaker Server, and how heavily used? If they're not too big, you could just run Filemaker Pro 5.5 on an XP machine.

I've been using an iMac for a while at work (1.5 years), and it is getting flaky, so we are replacing it with a new one. Is there a way I can copy all my Mac stuff AND my complete Windows bootcamp partition to the new mac with a minimum of fuss?

Once you have them connected by ensuring you're running the latest OS available .
And connect the new Mac to the old one using Firewire and Target Disk Mode .

Mac OS X 10.6 will include all the drivers necessary to run both your new MacBook Pro and the old MacBook Pro if it were loaded on either or.

My Time Machine Backup says that it doesn't have enough space to complete the next backup. I'm OK with it deleting old files, but I can't figure out how to get it to do that. I tried to and can't figure out how to delete old backups individually.

Hi,
I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8
When backing up through Time Machine, I back up to an external drive with a capacity of 465.64GB, of which 4.1GB is available. The size of the data I need to back is over 7GB.

My DD turns 8 in about 5 weeks and I'm thinking of buying her a sewing machine. I learned at about 7 and was sewing independently soon afterwards but I also got a few needles through the thumb as well. DH thinks 8 is possibly too young to be using a sewing...

I've been having problems with a backup lately, where the computer continuously backs up something until the Time Capsule is full, there isn't even that much stuff on my computer.
Anyways, I'm going to try to fix the problem by deleting the old backup...

Ok, I've found, on Pondini's FAQ for TM: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine , that one of the backup is missing and Time Machine own't connect to it, so I can't delete it properly.
