Nice idea but again there are factors that made it a not so good due to design and location (in between bulkheads for example) ut aircraft have to be made of lighter.

Less speed == less....
The more open, the less airspeed required to move the same volume of air through that hole .
Cut metal tends to be more closed than the wire frame setups .
I believe it is more a result of the openness of lattice, not so much the shape .
