Hi,
I still think I have seizures while I sleep but unless someone is next to me and feels or witnesses it I have no solid proof even had a sleep study done overnight and a 3 day at home EEG came home with a portable EEG and wires on my head looked like a human cottonswab lol. They said I had slight seizures when they read the results but seriously how can anyone sleep as normal as they can with wires on their head? So, I did not take their words seriously unless i video tape myself at night or my husband witnesses it then I go with how I feel in the morning. Headache, tired, abit confused.
Donna

I used to wake up in terror--it was the worst feeling. I think it depends upon what type of seizures you have. I don't shake, most of mine are sensory--but it was the night terrors that were horrible.

I have Complex Partials, so I see and smell things that aren't there. Because mine occur in the temporal lobe, I get that awful smell (for me it's pepper), a weird feeling in my stomach, etc...
I while ago I would have the night terrors--I've changed my medicine since then, and I haven't had them since. I've also added progesterone to my meds, which has helped a lot as well.
I'm not at risk for SUDEP, which is what Tim mentioned.

I have complex partial as well and I would smell gasoline or strong perfume smells and no one else would smell them. I also would see bright lights but i was on Depakote and though these were hallucinations as I would also have night terrors but I'm on Trileptol and I've been basically fine.

My husband seized so bad he broke a vertabae in his back. He was having
seizures they figure in his sleep for quite some time, doctors figure ....he
would just say something weird happened last night, but could not articulate
what. When I saw the seizure for the first time, was the time it broke his
back. He is still recovering. We had no idea he had a seizure disorder.
He is 71. dash

When I wake up, I am soaked from the shoulders up. It's like someone poured water over my head. I feel as though I have been drugged.
Someone mentioned smelling something that wasn't there. I don't just smell one thing, I have smelled gasoline, wood burning, acetone, lighter fluid. It seems that when I smell these things during the day, I will have a seizure at night. A lot (most)of mine are at night. I also have periods of shaking like as if I get really nervous all of a sudden. Sometimes my left side will go tingley as if I'm having a stroke. I went to the neurologist last week and he said that he's sure I have epilepsy, but now he has to see where they are coming from to know how to treat me. So nervous. I have had seizures since I was abt 16 (almost 30 years) and have hid it from most people. It was only when I had them in front of my husband that he made me get it checked out. Thank God for him. This has all been very confusing and extremely scarey.
Does anyone have any advice on how to not have so many siezures? Is there a trick or something? Sometimes I feel like someone poured ice cold, electrified water down my back immediately before a siezure. Does anyone else get that? I know that sounds strange, but it's the only way I know how to explain it. Like an electrified rod of ice stuck down my spine.
Rhonda

Rhonda,
Did I understand you to say that the Dr. did not give you
any meds until he finds out why you are having them?
I've had EP for over 49 years and I don't know why. I've found it best
to accept that I have EP, take my meds and go from there.
I don't know as there is a sure and fast way of knowing how to
not have szs -- because we are all different. And just because
Dilantin and Phenabarb work for me doesn't mean it will for anybody
else. You just have to try the different meds and see if they work for you.
I've been on Dilantin and :Phenabarb for over 20 years. My last szs
was 5 years ago.
I have never had an aura -- a smell, noise, light, etc to tell you will
have a sz.
Millie

Hi Susan
If my seizure is in my sleep it is usually violent and shaking but am unconscious at the time. When wake up:
Bed can be wet
muscles extremely sore (maybe)
dazed
super tired
unstable when try to walk
may not be able to talk straight for a bit
may have a headache
I have all of these + for my GM seizures but for partial (petit) the same can be only possibly not as bad and
not all had.
This is just me.
