I wasn't aware that there were different models though I am aware of the BMHR (Birmingham Mid-head Resectioning) device.
Are you able to share any additional information regarding the differences in BHR models and why one might be used over another? I went to Smith & Nephew's web site (see link below) and only found a photo which shows a single version of the BHR, the one I've seen for the last few years. I did a search for BMHR on their site and did not get any hits.

Thanks in advance for sharing. Take care and have a great week. :)

Exactly right, BMHR and the Smith and Nephew slight longer than BMHR are only offered outside USA, so I wondered if anyone else was outhere with the same problem.
If someone else had to have revision from BHR to BMHR or the slightly longer one and if they went out of the USA or if they just had both portions taken out and went to a different style than Smith and Nephew alltogether and what their outcome was.
The less you have to revise hardware wise in my mind would be better and I was thinking the same brands would be more interchangable.
My problem is the pain in ever increasing and not sure how long I can
put up with it. Trials for the BMHR and the slightly longer style were spose to be in the works for the last year or so I was told by one Ortho's office but everyone knows how slow things take to be approved by the FDA and the powers that be, thats why you do not find it on the Smith and Nephew site here in USA.

Have you checked with Dr. Bose? I believe he's presently using the BMHR when appropriate. I would have to believe the same would also be true for Dr. McMinn.

Hello, Catherine . . .
I am a patient of Dr. Rogerson's, looking at a 2nd revision to my left hip, which he didn't originally do. Dr. Myron Stachniw, of Galesburg, IL did the original resurf in Sept. 2005, and had to revise it in Jan. 2009. Cup never attached properly. Now his revision has the cup misplaced as well and is causing a nasty metal ion issue.
My reason for writing is, during my last visit/discussion with Dr. Rogerson (who's referred me to Dr. Daniel Berry at Mayo Clinic for my revision), he said he thought I would be the perfect candidate for the Smith & Nephew version of their THR, however, as I recall his words, he said that not only was it not FDA approved, but that it wasn't likely to be in this country for awhile because A., of the ASR and Zimmer fiasco and, B., Smith & Nephew has quit throwing money at trials at this time for the same reason. He said doctors are very wary of using these unapproved devices, even though they think it's the best solution, because of all the doctors being sued over the ASR and Zimmer debacles.
So, my first thought is, I wonder if Dr. Berry concurs it would be the best, does one have to offer to sign a waiver of liability of sorts to make it happen, as an unapproved device??
Just thinking out loud here and sharing my conversation with Dr. Rogerson.
Would love to hear others thoughts and recommendations . . .
Kathi, WI

Will your insurance not cover a trip to Dr.Bose in India? It would cost them less than surgery in the US.
