[surfacehippy] 6 month anniversary

On Sun, 29 Jan 2012 15:47:42 -0000, "sgreenba" <...@yahoo.com

Happy to report to my fellow hipsters that all is well on my 6 mo. anniversary, and I am now officially "unrestricted". I've been back in the gym regularly (elliptical and some weight work) for some time now and did two 15 mile hikes in the last month and... no pain.

I played my first round of golf after 5 months and the next two after 7 months. I kept my driver in my bag for the first round because I didn't want to overswing and screw something up. I probably could have used the driver but was just being cautious. I am happy to say that I can now walk up hills, get the ball out of the cup and place my tee myself without any problems (It sucked having to ask someone to do that for you before the surgery). Simple stuff, yes...but these are the little victories you feel great about after surgery and make you feel like you are returning to a normal life.

Hey Glenn -

You hit it right on the head about golfing issues with bad hips.  I purposely turned down several opportunities to play golf with friends the past year for the simple reason that I just could not bend over.  To me it was really embarrassing having to go down on one knee (and painfully, I might add) just to stick a friggin' tee in the ground with people watching, rolling their eyes, and wondering what poor pathetic person is this that is doing the Tebow thing on the tee boxes before they hit.  Even my friends were saying..... "C'mon you crippled old fart, find yourself a putt-putt course somewhere and spare us the embarrassment of watching you stumble and bumble your way around the course with us healthy adults."

More than anything else that was the main motivator for me to get my hips resurfaced.  I have gotten my right one done at this point and am looking at getting the other one done in a few weeks.  The frustration I have felt has almost brought me to tears on occasion.  I am hoping the next time I pick up a golf club it will be tears of joy!  Yes, indeed.....it is the simple stuff in life that a person really takes for granted and makes life grand.

I say, keep those victories coming.....no matter how large or how small.

Regards,
