I obtained about 3 cords of this wood for free….. I am almost certain it is of the maple variety….... but I was curious if anyone out there could identify from the attached pictures if it is hard (sugar) or soft (silver)....there are almost no leaves ...

Red maple bark is moreLooks like silver maple but would need some pics a little further away to say for sure.
As the tree grows and the trunk gets bigger the bark gets deeper and shaggier.

I have not seen climbers that are capable into trees.
Attachments That's a huge Maple Tree picture, the large tree looks like a Norway Maple.
Depends on whether or not I can protect them from the snowplow .

A question for the vintage experts:
did flame maple / rosewood necks exist during the early 60ies (prior CBS)?
I am in the middle of a '62 project and can get a great neck for it. But it has flamed maple.
And I never saw flamed maple necks on vintage ...

Yes there was flamed maple all over the show as there wasn't different with a flame neck.
Thin nitro finish.
Between Flamed Maple was not something that neck builders actually hunted for, specifically, but it did fingerboard.
