Bigleaf Maple: A Good Shade Tree? (growing, trees, yard, south) - Garden

Have all died (though one was replaced by a volunteer apple tree). I like that the bigleaf maple
the largest I could find were roughly 7-8 inches across. I was under the impression that the bigleaf maple
you would see back east after a a severe T-storm event..
The maple??..not a branch came off

Trying to decide which maple trees to plant:
Summer Red Maple
or
October Glory Maple
or
Autumn...
Blaze Maple?
We're leaning towards the Summer Red Maple as it's supposed to be red during the summer
slower than Reds.

I'm new to tree health . I have a young 12' maple tree. I have noticed the bark seems
to be splitting and curling in towards the tree. This is happening on the trunk and on the smaller branches all
may also be causing root decline. Do you know the cultivar of this maple, i.e. Red, Silver, etc. Cedar

or is it a wild tree? Are the undersides of the leaves silvery or light in color? Perhaps a sycamore maple...

What other trees besides Maple produce good syrup?
Birch and Hickory are at least two other trees beside Maple that produces a syrup. I can't say how
they taste though. There's only Maple syrup where I live. I've also heard of a syrup made from sugar
