Sport martial arts focus on just that; sports.
Sport martial arts and 'traditional' martial arts focus on completely different things.

Chinese arts have a long history and tend to be very "developed" which may or may not make them entirely practical for actual fighting .

Historically, why so many Japanese martial artists went to China to study martial arts? Founder of Goju Ryu, Uechi Ryu, Shorinji Kempo etc went to China to practice martial arts but I've never read a Chinese went to Japan to practice martial arts.
