My Cat 2 medical is about to run out (24 Jan), I dont intend to fly again for about 2 or 3 months. Is there any disadvantage in letting it lapse and getting it renewed just before I start flying again?

Would be annoying to only meet the renewal standard and thus be cut-off from holding a medical again because the current one has lapsed....
Does it still count as a renewal despite.
In the meantime and would require a current medical to retain.
