I have a very very simple SQL string that MS Access doesn't seem to like.
Select Top 5 * From news_table Order By news_date
This is returning ALL rows from the news_table not just the Top 5.
I thought this was a simple SQL statement, apparently it is ...

Try Select Top 5 From news_table Order By news_date
Select Top n selects all records where records keyfield is unique.

Given that those tables contain many records and both share exactly the same structure is it still smart to split them up instead of having a flag that marks them...

If you do merge into one table perhaps you could just .
You have to ask yourself if both are often hit show on the News Page or News Archive page.
Your news table will be faster without the archive.
