the only reason NBC has been on in my house lately is because of the
Olympics then it gets changed right after. NBC is extremely libral and it's
looks like they are supporting Obama instead of being an equal and fair news
channel. They are not going to ever pose any hard questions Obama way. Then
again, I am starting to wonder if he can answer a hard question. It's my
opinion that Obama has been babied by the media...which is not a good thing.
If he wins the election he is not going to be able to handle the White House
Press Core.....
What do I watch? I watch the Early Show (CBS) and a bit of Foxnews.... then
... I pop a movie after the Early Show goes off or turn on XM radio....
anything to get my mind off the bad news of the day....
Just my two cents worth...
(I wish Hillary was still in the mix... this could have been a fun election
year.)

I grew up watching Huntley-Brinkley, too, and they are still my ideal
of what news anchors should be. But to tell the truth, I haven't
watched the newcasts from any of the "big three" in years. For me,
it's now Fox and Headline News. And occasionally I'll watch the news
on BBCA, just for another take.
LIke you, I prefer to spend my evenings on other fare, particularly
books which are so much more fun than TV since I can create all the
events in them through the pictures in mind. I also like movies,
mostly old ones from Hollywood's Golden Age: I have a nice little
library of DVDS and VHS tapes. On occasion I will put a CD on the
player and lie down on my back, close my eyes, and spend the evening
letting the sounds roll over me.
When I was a kid I watched a _lot_ of TV, but it appeals to me less
and less, unless something like the Olympics comes on or an
extraordinary event like 9/11 happens.

Really? Because every time I turn on American TV news I have to stop
myself from punching the screen out. They use extremist conservative
terminology meant to twist our minds without any sense that they
realize it's extremist ideospeak. They toss words around like
"family", "traditional", "life", and the like in the exact ways these
extremists do without a clue that doing so only serves to minimize and
marginalize anyone who either disagrees with the extremists or who
doesn't live their lives according to their rules. (My favourite is
the use of the phrase "traditional marriage" to mean "making sure
those eeevil gays and lesbians can't have normal lives". Whose
tradition? 2,000 years ago, there were enough gay marriages to prompt
Terence to write about them and Juvenal to satire them. So it's only
traditional if it's their tradition?)
The worst is when newscasters go on and on and on and bloody on about
how "families" are being affected by this and that (as in "how will
this affect your family?" or "See how families are coping with..."),
as if a) everyone who counts as a human being is a member of a family,
and b) "family" is a synonym for "people". Given how the extremists
have misused the word "family" to mean "not slavishly and unthinkingly
conforming to our view of what a proper relationship is", it's very
sloppy.

The TRUTH is that there are at least 7 properties, with some
confusion as to what constitutes a "house" ....being that the
ranch has four separate living facilities as well as a two-story
cabin.
So, it IS vitally important. If you want to trust the US economy
to someone who doesn't know how many homes he owns, who
thinks "rich" is someone who makes at least $5 million a year,
and who has admitted they don't understand economics, well,

Don't give me that age thing either. My grandfather owned at least 5 houses
in Houston's Heights area besides his own. Up to his death at 77, he could
give you the address of each, who the tenant was, how long they had been in
there, whether they were current, and the things in each that needed
attention. He could also tell you off the top of his head the phone number
for the area city council member, the at large ones, or the proper city
department (and who to talk to there) if something only the city could do
needed to be done such as a ditch cleared out. But McCain has to refer a
question on just how many to his staff?

I don't think McCain said he didn't know how many houses he owned, but he
did imply it. Apparently the correct answer would have been "I don't own

Anyway I have to laugh at the notion that if you own seven houses you
couldn't possibly understand a working man's life. My friend and former
co-worker is a work along, nose to the grindstone kind of guy. He's so dumb
that he spent good money going to some of those "buy houses with no money
down" seminars advertised by some traveling huckster on TV. In fact he was
so dumb he believed what the traveling huckster said at the seminar. And
then he was actually dumb enough to go out and try to do it. And wouldn't
you know it, though dumb luck he was able to acquire some little run down
house. That was a little over 20 years ago. Today he owns 35 or so houses,
but whose counting. He still works a full time job, drives a 10 year old
truck, doesn't have cable TV or a computer. He may not be able to tell you
exactly how many houses he owns, but he sure does understand real life.
He kept telling me about deals I should be involved in and that he'd show me
how to do everything. Being a skeptic I finally said fine show me. I ended
up with 5 houses, but I had to stop there because I'm a lazy, hedonistic ass
who had rather waste time on USENET, watch cable TV, and be out trout
fishing than dealing in houses, chasing rent money, battling dollars, or
fishing miniature basketballs out of overflowing toilets a 10 pm. But I'm
convinced just about any working slob could own seven houses or more if
he/she believes they can and were willing to give up their free time and
whine time to go after it. And now is a great time to do it.

| I don't think McCain said he didn't know how many houses he owned, but he
| did imply it. Apparently the correct answer would have been "I don't own
| any houses."
The proper answer to the qustion would have been, "It's none of your f**king
business!"

No, McCain can't say that. Cindy McCain could say that, but I'm sure she
wouldn't for practical reasons.
