NEW YORK (Rueters) -- The New
York Yankees (total team salary
$208,097,414) are once again
world champions of baseball.
They defeated the Philadelphia
Phillies (team salary only $111,209,046)
7-3 in the sixth game last night
to win the series, four games to two.
Hideki Matsui ($13,000,000) was
the Yankees' hitting star with three
hits and six RBIs, even though he is
handicpapped because he doesn't
speak a word of the King's English.
Andy Pettitte (only $5,500,000)
was the pitching star, easily handling
the likes of the Phils' Ryan Howard
($15,000,000), Chase Utley ($11,285714);
Jimmy Rollins ($8,500,000) and Raul
Ibanez ($7,166,666).
Meanwhile, the Yankees believe they
got their money's worth from Alex
(A-Rod) Rodriquez ($33,000,000);
Derk Jeter ($21,600,000), Mark
Teixeira ($20,625,000); and Mariano
Rivera (only $15,000,000).
Because of the nearly-quarter
billion-dollar payroll, the Yankees
announced that the least expensive
seat next season will cost $150,
hot dogs will climb to $7.50 ($8
with mustard), and beer (a 12-ouncer
in a paper cup) will climb to $15.
