The Canadian broadcaster has commissioned a project featuring the
Hockey Night in Canada host that begins filming next week in Winnipeg.

Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story was written by the son of
the Coach’s Corner personality, Tim Cherry, who is also serving as
executive producer. The movie stars Jared Keeso as Don Cherry, and
Sarah Manninen as the late Rose Cherry.

There should be no shortage of fodder for the script, since Cherry has
led a very interesting — and very public — life.

“Love him or love him less, he’s one of those characters that
everybody’s got an opinion on and I think this makes for a pretty
compelling subject,” CBC spokesperson Jeff Keay told the Toronto Sun.

Producers are currently inviting volunteer extras in the Brandon,
Man., area to come out on May 24, May 31 and June 14 for a scene
replicating an official NHL game.

The flick itself will feature several such scenes as it follows
Cherry’s career in the minor and major leagues, as a coach for the
Boston Bruins and his childhood in Kingston, Ont.

Hopefully it will also feature the vast collection of ridiculous suits
Cherry is so well known for.

The film is expected to air on the CBC sometime next year.
