I need to create a newspaper site for a client , joomla is good enough to create such a website ? is there other options for creating newspaper sites ? thnx

If your needs.
By default articles are arranged in 2 columns on the homepage which is quite newspaper-like.
You can post articles and categorise them, add images and so on .
Be fine for a newspaper site.

I'd like to be able to cite a newspaper article in LaTeX, but Bibtex seems to have no date field (it has year and month, but that doesn't seem sufficient). Is there any good way around this?

You could also use the biblatex package which allows the date as an optional field on article. .
Apparently you can insert the date in the month field--see these comments on the "Blog on LaTeX Matters" .

Is it possible to have a css newspaper-column layout arranged such a way that, any number of columns can be added and they will be continuously added to the right of the existing columns.
My thought is like this: I would just add a new div and a new column...

I tried a few times to scan newspaper articles, but the images I got were always blotchy and with bad colors (sort of like this ).
Sometimes I see some really good scans, like this . What is the trick to get such good results? Do I need some high-quality...

In my opinion, any not too too old scanners are good enough to scan newspapers.
A lot of the issues paper behind the newspaper is very useful.
Its old school, but put a sheet of black paper behind the newspaper.
