Would anyone know if a case (however tenuous) could be made for compensation/money back from a travel company/airline (or potentially the IPS or government) for refusal to allow travel because of not possessing a valid passport? I'm not asking if it is...

It's not illegal to attempt to travel without a passport, but airlines particularly of a friend that i do ....

DrainBabe, I'm guessing that most of your travel would be with your boyfriend, so I think not mean family.
Boyfriend I would assume? Not much use putting his contact details on your passport =) You can put change.
Can an official passport be used for unofficial travel? Do airport authorities check for some kind of travel documentation or could my official passport be used in the same fashion as a civilian passport?
